As I informed you in july, we have fallen behind in the construction of the new extension for Isuru Preschool due to Covid. The country has been in lockdown from time to time and heavy rainfall has also hindered construction. Our project manager often couldn’t even visit the site because he wasn’t allowed to travel. He lives half an hour from the school. Fortunately, we have not lost anyone from staff, parents and children to Covid. Let’s hope we keep it that way.
Lessons continued through Zoom during the lockdown, a new phenomenon where the first introduction to computers at school in the previous years has helped enormously with the implementation.
Our school had an extra high risk because many parents work in the clothing industry. These factories have been a major source of the covid infections that have left our school in lockdown more than other parts of Sri Lanka.
But now there is finally good news !
Over the past 2 months there has been a lot of catching up on this backlog. After the foundation was completed, we were afraid that due to local lockdowns again no workers could and should not come to the building site. Yesterday I unexpectedly received good news from my project manager that a lot of work has been done in recent weeks and that a lot of progress has been made.

All villagers over 30 have been vaccinated twice (staff and parents)
Booster vaccine is currently being given to all villagers over 60 (grandparents of our kids who often come to pick up and bring children)
School children over 12 are also vaccinated (older brothers and sisters of our kids)
Strict measures have been taken against contamination in the clothing factories and it now appears to be under control.
The children are going back to school As it looks now, we hope to have the outbuilding completely ready before the Sri Lankan New Year at the beginning of April 2022. Unfortunately, it is impossible to predict what the influence of the new covid variant Omicron will be.
