The new extension building is almost finished !

The construction of the extension building, the kitchen and the new toilet building are as good as complete. It has become a very long process and after we were able to show the photo below in April, we still had quite a few setbacks. Stricter government rules with building restrictions that meant we were never allowed to build during school days, an ongoing economic crisis that meant building materials sometimes took ages to arrive and were more expensive and, to make matters worse, a very wet autumn and a lot of flooding. So bad that we had to temporarily close the school.

I will take you through the final phase of the project.

The new extension building with the library, the teachers’ room, the computer room and the waiting area and toilets for parents is as good as finished. The open space in front of the school looking from the entrance is currently being constructed with good drainage, beautiful plants and trees and a large new playground with colorful play equipment.

In January 2024, the building will be inaugurated in a traditional manner by the priests of the Talpe Temple and then officially opened by the founders of ISURU Preschool Eugene Bay and Matthieu Sosef.

Toiletbuilding

The new toilet building is conveniently close to the school so that the children do not have to walk so far and do not get wet when it rains.

Kitchen

The new kitchen between the new outbuilding and the school, where parents and teachers can prepare the meals that are so often central to all festivities. Truly a huge asset. This kitchen can also be used if we rent out the building for villagers’ events. Our school also has a strong community character in Talpe.

Computerroom

This week the oldest children had their first computer lessons in the new extension building. What an enrichment of their education, so wonderful that we can offer this.

Library

Very proud of our real library filled with Singhala and English books. There will be a large reading table and then our children can enjoy all the books that were donated by 2 volunteers from Amsterdam Tess and Zeb from the Focus Foundation.
